Shiyan's 21st birthday party

Last Sunday the Bioengineers travelled all the way down to Pasir Ris for a night of good food and games at Shiyan's birthday party - a belated one for her classmates and hall friends. Tian very kindly volunteered to drive me down to the other end of the world and it's funny how we wowed at the Pasir Ris shopping centre because we never ever ventured to this part of Singapore before. We reached Shiyan's place very late but there was still dinner so I had food! 2 servings haha. Shiyan's 'garden', or basically the outside of her house, has this deck which her dad built all by himself, and what I found more interesting is the coconut shell 'pots' that her dad hand-made too, you can see the 'pots' hanging down from nowhere in the photo below. Courtesy of Li Quan's blog!

We played games which helped integrated the Bioengineers with her hall people and then there was girls-vs-guys Taboo which the girls did very well but the guys won us by 1 word. I still think we were better haha! We even got Shiyan to play her favourite piece for us on her grand piano and she was superb. Now I know why Shiyan was chosen to play the RGS school song. Apart from the grand piano, she has 4 cabinets of violins, arranged in increasing size, used by her brother and sister. So the whole family is musically talented. Her parents must be so proud to have such talented children!

Thanks to Shiyan once again for inviting us over to celebrate this special occasion with her. I'm glad to have got to know her more in NUS because I never talked to her in RGS and RJC. But finally our paths crossed and I even did a critical writing project with her! And I got to know how funny and easy-going she is, with a very hilarious signature laughter. I don't think you'll see this, but have a smashing good time in Germany for the next 1 year!
