Temptation

Sprees are EVIL. I shouldn't even look, I won't be tempted if I don't look. First it was nail polishes. Then I spreed for the entire Twilight saga and also lonely planet guide books. Very good savings there I must say. Then I decided to check out Urban Outfitters - I rarely go to their website - and of cos something caught my eye. I don't even want to mention how tempted I am by La Senza, American Apparel, and there's a 80stees spree going on now!!! Ahhh I want that Motley Crue shirt that says Girls Girls Girls! Wanted it since many months ago when I first saw it at Queens Couture and then Li Quan and I saw a girl wearing that shirt at Topshop one day! Nice!! Arrghhh stop it!! I should stop checking these spree sites so often. Have not bought any piece of clothing yet, but junk food is on the top of my spree list now. I know junk food is so JC but i likeeee. =( Must keep reminding myself that I'm poor, poor, poor.

CNY

When everyone is home for once...

The rascal and the chauffeur.

We obviously stopped buying new clothes for chinese new year. Maybe only my mum and Jon wore new clothes. I'm never successful at keeping new clothes for CNY. Always can't wait to wear them.

The kids. Unfortunately, Jovina is taller than me now. :(
I'm no longer the tallest among the girls.:((

The mommy and her naughty kids. Dad's the official photographer.

26 Jan

Today, a year ago, I left home for 5 months. It was the beginning of an amazing and unforgettable journey. Till now, I've never stopped reminiscing the good 'ol days of SEP.

This year, I had my reunion dinner, and I just got back from a tiring day of visiting. I have aunties who ask me to faster get married after I graduate. Of course I reminded them that I'm only 22. Some mentioned that they didn't see me last year. Anyhow, thank god for the bf's car, which made my family's life much easier this CNY. You're the best, dear.  I didn't have it easy though. It was a nightmare driving them from Jurong to Kallang, then Chai Chee and finally Hougang. I got lost more than twice and nearly drove my family to a port - I was driving them towards Pulau Ubin instead of Hougang. haha. My dad was very encouraging though, said this was a good practice for me. It was quite funny cos when I finally drove them out of the 'jungle', my little brother heaved a sigh of relief and said "oh we're finally out!" haha.

Concert

So the verdict is out, the tickets for the upcoming EMCC concert (don't ask me what it means) by NUS Dance Blast! will be free, and to be released at the door from 6.30pm. 11 Feb 09, 8pm, UCC theatre. That's what all my night dance practices are for. We only had about 1 month to prepare for this mini-concert hence practices are at least twice a week for each item. Gonna be in 2 items. This is a mini-concert so it's shorter than the biannual ShutUp&Dance. Theme is about saving and caring for the environment so the items will carry an environmental twist. So to my dear friends who are interested, please come early to get good seats! :)

11.34pm, Friday, Lab:
My conjugate hybridization failed again.

Few nights ago, Home:
I dashed the hopes of two friends, one of whom is the best friend.

Conclusion:
I'm a lousy friend, I suck and I'm screwed.
x 3

My examiner is out to kill me. He wants me to do 3 separate presentations for my FYP prelim oral exam 2 so as to accommodate all three profs/docs. Very funny ah. Morning go DSO to present to MR and afternoon go dunno where to present to HMY. As if 1 presentation is not scary enough. You know what 3 presentations mean? It means 15 mins of Q&A in total. Also, MR does not follow guidelines and my previous presentation with him and LY lasted for more than an hour. Very good. I don't know what to say anymore. Good thing I have a new pair of heels to make me happy. My first from Pedder Red. :) $50!

So depressed

I'm already working in the lab today for more than 12 hours and my PhD told me I need to come to the lab more often. I don't know what can make me even more depressed. Been working almost every day during the holidays for nothing is not that bad cos I can psycho myself that it's normal but having to report this to my PhD and then see her time-is-running-out-for-you face is not helping. I'm really working hard, can I please tell my profs that cos seriously I don't think they care about how hard I'm working. They only want results. Got results = oh you've been working hard! ok A for you! So please, to my dear gold nanoparticle-DNA conjugates, please please buck up and help me. You really need to conjugate and then hybridize if not I'm dead. Please don't play tricks on me anymore, and if I'm doing something wrong please show me the light.

12 hours in the lab makes a person go crazy and starts talking to herself and her conjugates.

(after surviving the lab marathon)
Just wanna add that my mentor aka PhD is super nice and helpful, in case I made her sound mean, she's totally not. She played a major role in rescuing my FYP last semester and up till now, she's still imparting knowledge and guiding me patiently. She got me potassium chloride today and we started joking about ways to commit suicide in the lab. It is simply too easy to kill yourself in the lab and the challenge is to find the chemical that does it most quickly! Haha my mentor and I were laughing like mad women in the lab and that did help chase away the blues for a moment.

So in the end almost the whole world knows, when I'm trying so hard to keep mum about it so as to surprise my friends on Friday. Goodness what's the big deal anyway, it's totally not as glamorous as it sounds and such photos are bound to be scrutinized and criticized by people. I just did it for the experience and I would say the stylist and make-up artist were such interesting and talented people. I got laughed at for wanting to return the false eyelashes. I have to admit that was quite noob of me. Also, I was absolutely in love with my makeup. I don't know why I didn't take photos of myself during the process. I just forgot. And that night I was so reluctant to remove my makeup. =p Anyway it was a nice experience cos Tian was there with me, though he didn't say much when I was waiting for his opinion, but it was still nice cos he accompanied me. That's all that matters.

Wow. I finally started on my 2nd FYP progress report. The introduction.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Thanks for the lovely evening, girls. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did though it wasn't the best day for some of us. Thanks for rushing down from work to freaking Jurong so late at night, thanks for trying to eat and smile through the pain in your mouth, thanks for staying up so late although you had a long day in school and just survived a major exam with perhaps less than 6 hours of sleep the night before. As usual, we had too much food again plus double round of desserts. Anyhow, Happy 23rd, Ness:). haha I was just telling Baorong when we were preparing the cake in her kitchen, how 23 sounds old. hahahahah but it's ok!!! As long as we look and feel young and beautiful! :)

Ok enough of fun for now, I'm freaking stressed and I need to start doing my work NOW. The boyfriend starts his 6 months of 'holiday' while I start my 6 months of HELL. Perfect timing.

Breaking Dawn

omg I just finished reading Eclipse and I can't wait to start on Breaking Dawn. I can't believe I'm feeling sad for Jacob. I grew to like him more and more in the 3rd book, and omg Bella really fell in love with him. Can't blame her, I guess, but sigh, hard as it was for her to choose between the 2 amazing guys, she knew Edward's the one she can't live without. Sigh, the epilogue about Jacob was really quite painful to read.

The 3rd book was really much better than the 2nd book, and Mich assured that the 4th book wouldn't disappoint so aahhhh, I can't wait!!!

Oh ya, I have not started on my progress report at all. I have been reading, FYP-ing, dancing, and playing squash. And my last semester in NUS is officially starting TOMORROW.

Good luck friends, good luck to me too.

By the way, did I mention about my new phone? ;) It's a long story, but I'm really lucky, and Mummy offered to pay for me too. Haha I set my eyes on it ever since I first saw it, despite all the negative reviews and strong competitors, then one day some random event brought the phone and I together, when I didn't even ask for it and have decided not to get it for myself already because of its hefty price tag. So it seems as though the phone and I were meant to be together, and for the past 2 days I've been enjoying it. Sometimes I still can't believe it's actually mine. :) Good night now.

"We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly."

-- Sam Keen

Got this from Hazel's blog...and I think it's so true. Miss you dear. Study hard.

Thank you for the past 9 wonderful years...

Can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you...and little Nicky...

Love you.

Insane week. I don't have time to read Eclipse, and I'm going mad.

The Reunion

At the vibrant and colourful Clarke Quay, save for 2 ugly orange hotel buildings that are totally spoiling the pretty landscape. 3rd Jan - the day the 8 jiemeis are finally ALL back in Singapore for a decent dinner date. The latecomers didn't get to be in our Singapore River picture. =p

The long evening saw us dining at 2 ramen restaurants at Liang Court, in search for the perfect shobu ramen. We love Japan and we love food! We ended up at Tampopo but found the ramen only average. After dinner, we walked all the way to Pitstop Cafe for some Taboo action. More photos in Vanessa's camera. All I can say is, the two Aussie-girls were really away for quite a while but every time we meet, it always feels like they never left. So welcome back Dr. Ness, you'll be seeing a lot more of us since you're staying for good.:) love you all, babes.

Then came a brand new year...

Gothica

Vinodh's AWESOME house party, ushering the new year gothic style.

Just look at how much effort the family put in to decorate the house to the theme, the hand-made spiders on the wall, gothic pictures on the flat screen, the red lights, cobwebs, skeletons, and the pretty red candles and red and black sequined table cloth. You have no idea how impressed I was. Even Vinodh's parents were fully dressed to the theme, definitely more dressed up than I was. The food was great too! And of course the unlimited bottles of alcohol awaiting us...

NUS bioengineers gone wild. Even Mr. First Class-Dean's Lister.

Presenting the host! With his pretty granny dog, Di Di, behind him. :) Vinodh can act as Edward in the Bollywood's version of Twilight.

The pictures below were taken after a failed attempt to watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose (I still wanna watch it!!) and a game of King's Cup, totally a drinking game. We got to know some things we didn't really need to know about some of our friends (HAHA), we watched couples smooch each other, and we realised Kristy can't rhyme for nuts. Most people left after the drinking game, save for a few of us.

The two champions, who were drinking non-stop and still not really drunk. However, Eric did repeatedly ask Li Quan to take photo of Lenith and him every other 5 minutes, so they had about 4 such buddy shots till we put a stop to it. Vinodh had crashed on his bed by this time, and Eric was still making me drink wine shots. What a waste of expensive wine. But if they were using grey goose, I'd be gone by then. So by 4am, the party consumed a total of 13 bottles. Good job!

The BEST house party ever! Thanks Vinodh and family!! You guys totally rock.

First, it was Christmas...

A mini potluck + slumber party with the girls!

Slumber party photos coming up...

The annual potluck Christmas party at Tian's place

(Photos were imported from Facebook hence the enormous size and I can't make it smaller! =p)
